The definition-sutra of Patanjali. Vivekananda's 1896 English ('mind-stuff') is interpretive. Later scholars debate nirodha: cessation, stilling, or governing.

Citta's vrittis are the mind's turnings. Yoga is defined as their nirodha. What remains, for Patanjali, is the seer abiding in its own form (1.3) — a Yoga claim, not a Vedanta claim by default.
